The city of Palermo, Italy is a beautiful one of unique buildings and architectural history.
Most of the 16th and 17th century monuments in Palermo are located in the old city centre from Via Vittorio Emanuele to Via Maqueda.
Interestingly, most of the buildings from the Norman Era, including the Palazzo dei Normanni and the cathedral, were built on top of earlier Arab palaces and mosques.
At the Quattro Canti is the Renaissance Palermo and the Baroque Palermo.
Just 8 km from the city centre is the spectacular Santa Maria di Monreale cathedral, a jewel of Norman architecture with magnificent mosaics.
Sicily is also famous for all its food specialities especially sweets, however, many do not know that ice cream comes from Sicily and the ice cream made from citrus fruits that you find in Sicilian pastry shops is exceptional.
